Job Title: Senior Cost Accountant
Job Function: Cost Accounting
Job Overview:
The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for the accuracy of the ni’s cost and inventory accounting in compliance with GAAP. Reports to the Corporate Controller and located at the Unigen Headquarters in Newark, CA.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain the integrity and accuracy of the Cost Accounting System:
- Update material cost when required/scheduled, maintain cost procedures, review cost variances on a regular basis;
- Provide solutions and training for daily inventory problems globally;
- Review and manage various inventory controls and transactions within the Oracle ERP system (manage the entry of miscellaneous inventory adjustments to ensure required approvals are obtained and coding is correctly stated; maintain the accuracy of inventory is through cycle counting or physical inventory counting; audit and validate inventory transactions);
- Design and develop procedures and policies for the cost accounting system;
- Manage the activities and personnel of the Cost Accounting function:
- Manage the local plants’ month-end closing activities;
- Run all closing functions and reports, and audit the system report balances to ensure accuracy and balancing;
- Prepare, manage and audit the costing and inventory financial close;
- Prepare and approve monthly journal vouchers, inventory reconciliation, review aged work orders, prepare earned labor and overhead schedule, review purchase price variance analysis, standard cost update analysis, along with other required schedules;
- Prepare for and coordinate with the financial auditors for the interim and year-end financial audit and for the semiannual bank audits pertaining to the areas of costing and inventory;
- Prepare schedules for management pertaining to status of inventory, report necessary inventory adjustments and obtain required approvals;
- Select, develop and evaluate personnel to ensure efficient operation of the function;
3.Provide leadership and share expertise cross-functionally:
- Communicate, coordinate and troubleshoot with the internal team members to resolve accounting issues;
- Delegate, assign transaction-related tasks and control cross-functional adherence to the established accounting procedures and instructions;
- Provide support and training to new or existing cross-functional team members in company’s cost opportunities, formulate action plans, accounting procedures as needed;
- Analyze and propose solutions to inventory flow problems and provide instructions on various inventory adjustment transactions; assist in Oracle implementation and provide necessary training;
4.Other tasks and responsibilities related to the Cost Accounting function.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
- CMA or CPA,
- GAAP fundamentals,
- Minimum 10 years of experience with financial analysis, cost accounting, and general ledger,
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
